After work on Friday, we had a simple (read: cheap) lunch at The Loop before heading out to Trinoma. Then we figured that I was going to need a whole new wardrobe because, well, the past year’s work clothes just won’t cut it for the next year. Long story. Let’s just say that I’ve been wearing jeans to work 8x out of 10 in the past 12 months and that will be reversed now.

So while I was playing barbie doll and trying out the clothes we picked, he was out waiting for me and playing with Maxine. I am pleased with the results, and I believe so is he. Look here:

This is a store we never fail to visit whenever we’re at The Gateway Mall at the Araneta. Actually, we also never fail to visit it’s branches at Trinoma and even The Block. To be honest, I sometimes would like to just hold his hand and hurry him past these shops, but I kinda understand too. I mean, for me it’s looking at sandals and clogs and flats, and bags! Even when I don’t need to buy anything, or I wasn’t looking to buy, I still look. For Alfred though, most of the time he’s looking for something. He has an idea of what he wants. He may have seen someone else wearing a pair, or he may have seen it online. But he always has a pair that he wants to have – despite how many pairs he already has. How many exactly? I’ve lost count. Haha. The stripes on the shoes should be a giveaway already, but here’s a closer shot:

He says he’s loyal to the brand, and won’t buy rubber shoes from Nike (although I catch him admiring some of their designs too!).

Ha, anyway, I didn’t really come over to blog about Alfred’s obsession over Adidas shoes. I just wanted to share his pictures, doesn’t he look quite handsome in them? It’s the lighting.

He isn’t very diligent in updating his blog anyway, so let me.

His laptop isn’t working. It’s been acting up for several weeks now, and last week it was just finally too much of a hassle to coax it to work. Now, there’s a guy in my office who seems to be a jack of all trades. He’s into photography, he does card tricks, and then he also repairs laptops on the side. When I found out about it, the dude and his co-worker friend, politely offered to help me out if I had any laptop issues. So I told the boyfriend about me. Of course that got him super eager to have me send in his laptop.

And I don’t have any problem with that, seriously. I’d take it in with me to work. BUT his laptop is here, without a bag. How am I to lug it around? His suggestion is to use my reusable bag. The one we used to take the laptop with us to Bohol:

The thing is, that was okay then because we were also using a sleeve for the laptop! Today, the sleeve isn’t available. No sleeve, no bag. So if I just throw it in my flimsy, made-for-shopping bag, I just wouldn’t feel comfortable that it’s safe in there.

He wouldn’t hear of it. He insists on me taking it ASAP, and doesn’t care about the bag. He insists that I don’t bring it with me just because I don’t want to.

What frustrates me is that I’ve given him the reason, but he doesn’t listen. All I’m saying is that I want it to be brought in with a proper bag so I (and the dude who’s going to fix it) wouldn’t have to worry so much about transporting it back and forth. He could bring the bag here when he comes over, but he doesn’t want to have to wait until then. Bottom line is, he’s so darn insistent because he wants it fixed when he comes over for the weekend.

Well c’mon.

I don’t know if I’ve successfully put into writing what irritates me about the whole situation and his attitude about it all. But I don’t want to paint him out as a bad guy either. This is his blog after all. Haha.

 I can’t remember when or how I first stumbled about this lady’s effort to help out the young school children of her hometown, but I knew from the get go that I wanted to help. What she described in her blog is something I have witnessed too – there really are kids who, even when they have no pencils to use or paper to write on, would still go to school because they so desire to learn. There are children who would launder their uniforms everyday after school because they only have one pair of blouse/polo and skirt/shorts that they could wear. And how many kids go to school barefoot because there’s just not enough money for slippers?

For sure, pencils will not solve their impoverished situation, but I agree that it will give the children another reason to hope and work for a better future.

How much does a pencil cost?  Surely less than ten pesos for the regular yellow ones (yes, I am referring to Mongols).  I intend to buy pencils (and a couple of sharpeners that the teachers can make available for the students) and send them over before the end of May.   I hope to get the boyfriend in on this project, and maybe encourage my team at work too.  I’ll ask mom and dad, my brother, and even all the kids here who take their own pencils for granted.  I won’t force anyone to donate with me but I don’t think it would be difficult to convince them to participate.  I mean seriously, how many pencils are the equivalent to the current costs of a pack of cigarettes? Or a can of coke?
